Vernie Doehring was born in southwest Missouri. He bought his first Hereford heifer at 11 years old, and he was hooked. At 12, he got an FSA loan to buy 3 more, and at 13, he started his first job, of course so that he could buy more cows. At that time, Vernie and his brother were running 32 breeding sows. When Vernie was 16, he sold all of his pigs to buy more heifers. At 19, he bought 21 cows from Dr. Carl Hermsmeyer, and those cows put him through school at College of the Ozarks in Branson, Missouri. While in college, he took his cattle to the Louisiana State Fair, where he met Shiloh, who was there with the Sam Houston State University beef cattle show team. She didn’t tell Vernie about the family hereford ranch until after they were engaged.Vernie proposed at the Missouri State Fair the next year, and tried to have the wedding in Denver at the National Western Stock Show. They were married in December, and the following May they moved to Spencer, Nebraska, and Vernie went to work for Lowell Fisher of Fisher Family Herefords, who Vernie had met while fitting cattle in college. In 2014, the timing was right and they moved to Texas to manage Noack Herefords.
